ABOUT MS. KEEVER

I was born in New Jersey, did most of my growing up in Miramar, Florida, and after living in Nashville, TN, Elizabethtown, KY, and Lexington, KY, ended up in Huntsville, AL. I got a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky in 1984 and a Master of Science in Education from the same institution in 1991. Before entering education, I worked as a medical technologist in a hospital clinical chemistry lab during the 1970’s and during the 1980’s I was a research analyst in cancer and immunology/aging research labs at the University of Kentucky.

I have taught algebra, biology, chemistry, geometry, principles of technology, and physical science over the years. I also am a facilitator for these environmental education programs: Project Wild, Project Wild Aquatic, Project Learning Tree, and Project Wet.

Besides teaching, I have revised the Advanced Placement Chemistry Curriculum Guide for Huntsville City Schools and written the pacing guides for Chemistry and Advanced Chemistry. I have also received a Toyata Tapestry grant in 1998 (as part of the grant staff), and serve on the grant committee at school. I have been Science Club sponsor and Rocket City Robotics Team 34 sponsor.

I am a member of the National Science Teachers’ AssociationAmerican Chemical Society, and the American Association of Physics Teachers. I attend conferences presented by these organizations as often as possible to keep my teaching methods current and to gain inspiration for fun things to do in class.

I have volunteered with Girl Scouts as an outdoor trainer, with Red Cross as a First Aid/CPR instructor, and am a member of the Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit and of H.E.M.S.I.’s High Angle Rough Terrain team.

My hobbies include caving, backpacking, travel, camping, photography, gardening, and stamp collecting.

I have three children. My daughter is studying for her Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Tech and is married. My oldest son is a senior majoring in Computer Science at UNA and my youngest is a sophmore at UAH majoring in Civil Engineering
