Ms. Keever's Science Classes
There is a $30 lab fee for all science lab classes. Fees can be paid by cash or check (payable to Butler High School). Fees must be paid for supplies to be purchased so students to participate in lab.
Classroom Rules and Procedures
CLASSROOM RULES
In addition to obeying all School and Handbook rules, you must:
1. Be on time to class every day. Tardies hurt.
2. Have your text, notebooks, homework, and supplies with you.
3. Be attentive and participate in class.
4. Be honest and respectful.
5. Other than water, this is a food and beverage-free classroom.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO BREAK A RULE:
Contraband (cell phones, CD players, playing cards, etc.) will be taken up and stored in a secure place. I will return the items the next day for the first offense, after a full week for the second offense, and for a third offense, the item will be given to an administrator for the remainder of the semester. A parent conference must be arranged to get the item back before the specified times above.
Food or Beverage: I will come to your seat with the trash can. You will dispose of whatever it is you were eating or drinking. You will not be permitted to "save" your leftovers. If you refuse to comply with the food rule, you will be referred to the assistant principal.
Behaviorial Offenses: First offense - I will speak with you privately. Second offense - I will speak with your parent. Third offense OR serious first/second offense - You will be written up and referred to the assistant principal.
Attendance: Three tardies = unexcused absence. First UA will earn letter home. Three UA will earn attendance notice to parent. Fifth UA will earn a card sent to Pupil Services for followup. More than 5 UA = denial of credit.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
START OF CLASS
Students will sit in their assigned seat, get out supplies, turn in homework, and immediately start the bellwork assignment. Bellwork is to be done quietly and independently.
HALL PASSES
Hall passes will be given out for emergencies only. I will decide what constitutes an emergency. Use the restroom and visit your locker between classes.
ASSIGNMENTS
Homework is to be done at home and turned in at the beginning of class. Homework will not be accepted at any other time. Assignments must be turned in to the appropriate basket for each class. Assignment headings must include Name, Date, and Assignment Title Make up work is your responsibility. See me for assignments. Class assignments, unless assigned as group work, are to be done independently. I have no tolerance for copying or cheating.
END OF CLASS
Students are to participate in class activities until the time I dismiss the class. Neither the clock nor the bell dismiss the class - I do.
SUPPLIES
Calculator that does square roots and logs - Chemistry students must have this daily. Pencil & pen Highlighter(s) Sprial notebook with pockets ~or~ Three-ring binder with paper for daily notes.
FEES
Each student must pay a $20 fee for lab supplies. To be exempt from fees a "fee exemption form" must be completed and approved by the main office. Please pay fees as soon as possible. May be paid in cash or check written to Butler High School.
GRADING
Tests are 50% of the 9-week term grade. The remaining 50% of your grade will be a combination of labs, bellwork, homework, and other assignments.
LAB SAFETY
You must pass a lab safety test and sign a Lab Safety Contract in order to participate in laboratory activities.
